Come Explore our World

Welcome to 8th Grade Production and Innovation

Technology Education in the 8th grade is offered as a year long elective class. We will focus on learning through doing , we will first investigate and discover "What is Technology?," so that we can use that to help us to better explore and understand the world around us. We will then learn about and apply the Engineering Design process to two major units: Rocketry, through our OTTW Mission to Mars Project, and then through our student choice project, where the students can choose to learn about programming, how to build something, or how things work. From there we will move into the Manufacturing Lab where they will learn more hands-on life skills and general building skills through another OTTW School Improvement Project and then a few smaller scale wood projects.
In addition to these units we will also be working in the production and manufacturing lab. Here, students will learn how to safely and to confidently use the drill press, band saw, belt sander, planer, and many other popular general purpose and special purpose machine as well as miscellaneous hand tools needed to complete these activities. Due to the nature of this class, we will be charging a lab fee of $15.00 for the year to help supplement the material costs for the class projects. I will be posting a form that will need to be filled out and sent in with this fee the first week of school. Students who do not pay the lab fee will still receive the benefits of the class through a theoretical approach rather than a “hands on” approach. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact.
